Fires & Fireplaces

Wolf Heating understands when you purchase a new fire or fireplace the next step is to get it fitted correctly.

Wolf offers an installation service of all types of fires and fireplaces.

We follow all the latest rules and regulations in force including, Gas safe regulations, current building regulations, and all health and safety rules.

Please note if undertaking your own installation there are some important notes you should be aware of:

Chimneys and Flues

Recent changes to Building regulations mean you now need to either refer work to your local Building Control Department (expensive) to be approved and assessed or use a Gas Safe Registered Installer (check us out ) or ask for their card, before they undertake this type of work or installation.

Relining Failed Chimneys

Stainless steel lining systems have become popular in the past 20 years. Safety tested and comply with current regulations in force, they are available in flexible, or in straight, rigid sections. Stainless steel costs more than similar aluminum liners. However, aluminum cannot be used with solid fuels such as wood and coal that produce corrosive emissions. Gas liners come in standard sizes of 5 and 7 inch in alloy.

There are some special requirements and some limitations:

  • The connection above the damper and the throat of the fireplace is the most difficult part of the installation.
  • These liners work well with stoves or fireplace inserts. They may not be a good choice if you want to enjoy open wood fires in your fireplace. The inside dimensions of these liners are often too small to properly vent old, open fireplaces.

Hearths and Fireplaces

Hearths now need to be suitable, for the type of fire your have chosen, and the remedial work and surround fixtures also need to be suitable for the type of installation you require, i.e. Gas, LPG and solid fuel.

Gas Fires

Gas Safety Regulations specify that all types of gas fires should be fitted by a Gas Safe Registered Installer who holds a valid certificate of competence to cover gas fires. (View the Gas Safe Register) or ask for there card.

Stoves

Stoves have specific guide lines on distances from combustible materials etc, all found within the manufacturers guidelines, also correct installation of enclosed flue systems applies to stoves, liners, closure plates etc, which come under gas safe regulations, also due to the weight of some stoves and heat output, correct hearth materials need to be used with expansion joints if required.

All Fires

All fires must be installed in accordance with the manufactures installation instructions and current building regulations and must not be fitted directly onto a carpet or floor of combustible materials.

Wolf Installation Procedure

Based on a typical example of an installation, this includes the following:

  • Removal of existing fire and fire surround
  • Testing and remedial work of flue
  • Installation of flue liner should it be required
  • Cutting and fitting the back panel/hearth
  • Installation of new surround and gas fire.
  • Final set up and testing with hand over to customer with verbal instructions on use of fire

Due to location, size of new fire, etc, there maybe additional work needed i.e.-extension of gas or electric supply and conversion of the fire opening, this is to accommodate the type of fire and fireplace you may choose, helpful advice is on hand to ensure your desired choice can be installed without disappointment.Installation prices vary and are given on request.
